Why hire a Non-Executive Director? (N.E.D.)
Expertise and experience are usually expensive, hard to find, and difficult to introduce into an organisation. That’s why it is often sensible to find an external ‘brain’ who has a genuine talent for being able to step in to a strange situation, and immediately be able to leverage their expertise and experience to improve your organisation and its functions.
Simply put, the most capable people usually dont want to be tied down to one role or stiuation, where their skills can only ever be deployed in a narrow field. Being able to work with multiple clients, in multiple situations, over any given period of time is a key driver for serious talent. Which is why much of that talent often chooses to become a Non-Executive Director.
What is a Non-Executive Director?
A Non-Executive Director generally comes in one of two versions:
- Board / Management Advisor: A NED can act as a ‘general’ advisor to the whole management or Director team, leveraging their expertise and experience across all areas of the organisation.
- Function Leader / Advisor: A NED can also be called in to build, rebuild or advise upon the operations of a single function within an organisation.

How does our NED service work?
Depending on the nature of the deployment for our NED’s, and how intense the work is going to be, we will generally work on either a six month or twelve month contract. General advisory work will usually involve participation in meetings, whilst departmental interventions will require much more ‘presence’ and therefore time on the ground in the organisation.
